Love it. Only thing better would be electricity, and showers.
Another DNR spot abandoned by the state. Fortunately, Allegan County took over the administration of this rustic wilderness gem of a campground.
Designated sites requiring a fee to camp. 4 star rating given by this reviewer for park beauty not lavish amenities. Out house, well pump is as fancy as it gets here! Ely Lake is great for swimming. Its shallow and warms early. Forest is second growth, mix of oaks maples and a few beach trees. Conifers were planted in here as a works project during the depression
Ranger should make more than the expected am drive through the park.
Campground is nice enough, a little dusty, and the outhouses smell a bit, but it's not bad for a primitive campground. However, we cut our visit short when we had homeless people coming up to our RV asking to use our electricity, and noticed what I would assume a drug dealer in and out of the park all day and all night (driving all around and behind our camper). It's not bad during normal season, but don't go if you're planning off season camping, unless you're ok with drug dealers, traffic, and homeless.
Clean campground. Lots of fun
Our go to family campground. We love the simple rustic forest. Swimming area is great for the kids. We've never had an issue with loud party people. Bring large pieces of wood for your fires and bug spray! Great lake to kayak too.
